Andrej Kiska has received his engineering degree in microelectronics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. For more than 15 years, he held various management positions and conducted business activities. In 2005 he sold his entire stake in his companies to the VUB bank and decided to devote himself to charity work. In 2006 he founded together with a friend Good Angel, a non-profit organization for whose financing he donated one million euro of his own money. Good Angel helps families with children which have found themselves in a financial distress because of a serious, life-threatening illness, and has become the most successful non-corporate charity in Slovakia nowadays. In 2011 he co-founded a Good Angel company in the Czech Republic. In 2006, he won the Trend magazine award Manager of the Year, and in 2011 he was awarded the Crystal Wing for philanthropy. In 2012, Andrej Kiska decided to run for president as independent and non-partisan candidate. In presidential election run-off on March 29, 2014 he was elected President of the Slovak Republic (when receiving 59.38 percent of all ballots cast). He assumed the office of the President of the Slovak Republic after taking the oath of office at the inauguration ceremony on June 15, 2014.

Peter Plavčan graduated from the Faculty of Management of the University of Economics in Bratislava in 1983. In 1994 he obtained the title CSc. (Candidate of Sciences) in the field of Pedagogy from the Comenius University in Bratislava and in 1997 he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in Economics and Business Management by Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Professor in the field of Education Technology by the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. Between the years 1984-1990 he worked at the then Institute of Information and Prognoses of Education and since 1991 he has worked at the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic as Director of the Higher Education Department and General Director of the Higher Education, Science and Research Division. He was involved in the work of several International Committees under the Council of Europe, OECD and the European Commission. He was appointed to the position of Minister by the SNS political party (Slovak National Party).

Evarist Bartolo took office as the Minister for Education and Employment on 13 March 2013. He was born on 14 October 1952 in Mellieha and has three brothers and three sisters. His father worked as a primary school teacher. He is married to Gillian and they have two children, Katrin and Louisa. In 1975 Bartolo graduated from the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons) degree in English Literature and continued his studies in journalism at Stanford University. He also read for a Master’s in Education at the University of Cardiff. He spent three years teaching at De La Salle College as well as working with the national broadcasting station and editor of numerous media organisations. A member of parliament since 1992, he worked mostly in Education, European affairs and Tourism as well as serving as Minister of Education and National Culture under a Labour government between 1996 and 1998. Minister Bartolo is known for being a proponent of civil rights in Malta, co-sponsoring a Parliamentary Bill for the introduction of divorce legislation in Malta. The bill was approved in Parliament in October 2011 following a successful referendum campaign.

Ivan graduated in international affairs and diplomacy in 2000 from Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. He has been working in the fields of education, youth and sport since 2003. He served as a Director-General for European Affairs at the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, dealing mostly with the European Social Fund. In 2006 he joined the Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU as a counselor for education, youth and sport. More recently, he has been preparing the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU and is a head of unit at the Permanent Representation dealing with education, youth, sport and research. In 2015 he complemented his education record with a Master’s degree (MA) in International Sports Law in Madrid. During the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU Ivan is chairing the Education Committee and is deputy chair of the Working Party on Sport.

Peter Csermely (57) is a professor of the Semmelweis University (Budapest, Hungary). His major field of study is the adaptation of complex networks (www.linkgroup.hu). In 1995 dr. Csermely launched a highly successful initiative, which provided research opportunities for more than 10,000 gifted high school students so far. In 2006 he established the Hungarian National Talent Support Council (www.tehetseg.hu/en) running a talent support network involving more than 200,000 people. In 2012 he became the president of the European Council for High Ability, which started a European Talent Support Network in 2015 (www.echa.info) now having more than 300 nodes in 35 countries of Europe and several other continents. Dr. Csermely was the member of the Wise Persons’ Council of the president of Hungary, is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea and an Ashoka Fellow, was a Fogarty, a Howard Hughes and a Rockefeller Scholar, as well as a Templeton Awardee and received several other national and international honors and awards including the 2004 Descartes Award of the European Union.

While Dylan Hyman was working with children with cognitive talent (often called gifted or highly gifted), she found out there existed a big disparity between the “enrichment” programs for these children and the practice in their own classrooms. At Tedx Amsterdam Education in 2013, she asked parents and other teachers to help start a grassroots movement to implement components of enrichment in the Dutch primary curriculum. She advocates using easily accessible models for teachers like the Higher Order Thinking (Bloom, 1956) and implementation of student-driven learning via practices like 20% time. In 2015 she was asked to develop and teach at a new school for students aged ten to sixteen in a diverse and multicultural neighborhood of Amsterdam. In August 2016 they opened their doors for the first group of students at Spring High, a school with heterogeneous learning groups and a focus on project based learning (PBL).

Jolana Laznibatová is the principal of the School for Gifted Children and also a researcher. She was the first in Slovakia to address the issue of giftedness. In 1993 she worked on the Project of Alternative Care for Gifted Children, which set the basis for the opening of the first school for intellectually gifted students in Bratislava. She is also the author of an educational program – Program APROGEN focused on care, education and support of gifted pupils from the age of 5 to 18. The program is used in the network of schools in Slovakia that provide classes for gifted children, where she works as a coordinator. As a researcher, she has dealt with personality characteristics of gifted students, issues connected with gifted children and ADHD, or Asperger's Syndrome. She is currently addressing the problems of coping with life challenges and gaining satisfaction from life in gifted adolescents. She organized 6 international conferences with a focus on expanding knowledge about gifted for both educators and psychologists as well as for parents and the wider public. As a psychologist she provides counseling services for gifted children and their parents. She founded the Alumni Club to work closely with former pupils of the school to create an independent research group providing information about the gifted in real life. She is the author and co-author of numerous articles and publications on the subject of giftedness (Psychology of Giftedness (1987), Meet a Gifted Child (2003), Talent Development Around The World (2013)). Amongst the most important are her monographs from 25 years of practical experience of the gifted: Gifted Child, His-Her Development, Education and Support (2001), Talented Students in Elementary, Middle and High school (2012). For her long-term excellent care, support, education and development of gifted and talented students in Slovakia she was awarded a title of Slovak Woman of the Year 2016.

Yoomi Renström has been Mayor of the Municipality of Ovanåker (Sweden) since 2010. He is author of several papers in Europe and abroad. He is a member of several scientific project teams and of the ISCRAM Association in Brussels (Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management) and the Society for Science and the Public, in Washington D.C. He dedicates his free time to promote science among young people. Jozef Ristvej is the director of the prestigious contest for students of secondary and primary schools Festival of Science and Technology of AMAVET (identifying talent in science and technology among schoolchildren) and also National Coordinator of the EUCYS (European Union Contest for Young Scientists).

Dana Rušinová is the Executive Director of the Children of Slovakia Foundation and the President of the Coalition for Children Slovakia, an expert in children´s rights and well-being. Dana is responsible for strategic and content development and advocacy activities. The Coalition is a platform organization of NGOs promoting the children´s rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Dana was the initiator of the Coalition. She has led a team of experts preparing a Complementary report on the implementation of the CRC in Slovakia (2007-2015) and she headed a delegation which presented the report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva in October 2015. Dana is a member of the Eurochild Management Board, a European NGO platform promoting children's rights. She is also a local politician focusing on children and young people.

Wolfensberger has led the research group “Talent Development in Higher Education and Society” at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen since 2009. Albert Ziegler, PhD., is Chair Professor of Educational Psychology and Research on Excellence at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He is the Founding Director of the State-wide Counseling and Research Centre for the Gifted. He has published approx. 350 books, chapters and articles in the fields of talent development and educational psychology. Presently he serves as the Secretary-General of the International Research Association for Talent Development and Excellence (IRATDE) and as the Vice-President of ECHA (European Council for High Ability).

Georgios Zisimos is working since March 2014 at the European Training Foundation (ETF) in Turin holding a senior’s officer position on EU Education and Training Policies. On February 2010, he was appointed in Brussels member of the Cabinet of the EU Commissioner responsible for education, culture, multilingualism, youth and sport. He was in charge of the education portfolio within the cabinet. In his career in the EU he followed closely the developments in Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Vocational Education and Training. Currently in the ETF he is following up on the Copenhagen/Riga process developments in the EU candidate countries. Previous to his EU postings, Georgios taught in public schools both in the UK and Cyprus, and had a very active role in key education organisations and committees (elected Secretary General of the Cypriot Secondary Teacher's Union in 2005, member to the Executive Committee of the ETUCE, and Member of the Scientific Committee on Curriculum Reform in Cyprus appointed by the Minister's Council in 2008). He has a BA in Design and Technology, and holds an MA in Curriculum Studies from the Institute of Education, London.
